My guest this week is Jim Chaffee and with this episode I realized how grateful I am to be talking with people in this format. This is a conversation that, more than likely, wouldn't have happened unless the Foot in the Door podcast existed, and I'm glad it happened. Thanks, Foot in the Door podcast.
I first met Jim while I was working at Gotee Records and our paths would occasionally cross from time to time, but it was always on a business level. I never got the opportunity to sit down with him and really connect with him on a personal level and now, after having the opportunity to do so, I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to do it.
After listening to this episode, you'll see why. Jim's a great guy with a fascinating story and I love the fact that he doesn't beat around the bush. He's honest and forthcoming and tells you exactly what he thinks and I find that refreshing. It's something you don't often find in an industry where you have to deal with tender egos, but it's an essential trait to have if you really want to be successful and tackle things head on. Jim has spent time as the head of a record label and has managed some amazing people in the music and literary worlds. Not bad for a kid from Alhambra who used to "air conduct" to John Philip Sousa records.
