Episode 024 - Paul Valenti

When you're with Paul Valenti, you're with one of the kindest, warmest, funniest people you can be around. He's the human version of "Cheers" and every time he sees you walk in the door he greets you with a happy "Heyyyyy!" and a big hug. We could all use more people like Paulie in our lives.

Of course, when I think of those warm greetings, I think of my time in New York City at the National Comedy Theatre. That's where I met Paul and got to know him, his sense of humor, and his willingness to do anything for a laugh. This is a guy who lives for the laughter and his commitment to it is great to be around.

As the years have gone by it's been a lot of fun to see Paul and his partner in crime Chris O'Neill really take off as their Chris & Paul Show has taken the sketch comedy world by storm. I enjoyed getting this chance to catch up with Paul and chat with him about comedy, improv, sketch and - of course - The Stooges.

Episode 023 - Jack Wolfe

Jack Wolfe is the pastor at Epic Faith in Duluth, GA. Yes, technically that's a true statement, but to assume that sentence properly describes who Jack is, well...it's not even close.

I first met Jack in the 80s at a church in a small town in Indiana. He was my youth pastor at the time. When you think of a youth pastor, you probably think of a guy with a gotee and bleach-tipped hair who tries so hard to make you think he's "cool," he ends up just making you want to throw up. That's not Jack.

Jack went on to found a church in Duluth, Georgia and just like he didn't fit the mold of stereotypical youth pastor, he also refused to be pigeonholed into what one may think of when one thinks of the guy behind the pulpit. And that's why I love Jack. He isn't the televangelist on TV with the million-member congregation and the stage filled with golden thrones for chairs.

And that's not who Jack wants to be.

Jack is a pastor who doesn't talk like a pastor. Or at least, how you might think a pastor talks, mostly because he talks like a regular person (Go figure, huh?). Whether he's teaching on Sunday morning or chatting via Skype for the podcast, this is a guy who believes in being real and honest with people. He goofs up. He gets worried. He gets upset. You know, like an actual human does. He's not an unapproachable holy man; he's a guy who loves to tell a story and share a laugh who happens to have a true passion for God and those around him. Give this one a listen. You may be surprised at what you take away from it.
