Yes, Ben Kristijanto is the frontman for the band Bread of Stone, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Born in America, raised in Indonesia for the first nine years of his life, and then transplanted back to the States, Ben's unique upbringing has given him an infectious passion for life, helping others, and serving God.
I was pleased to have the chance to sit down with Ben via Skype - he in his home studio in Iowa and I in my own corner of Amish Paradise - where the conversation flowed easily. Time flew by while I spoke with Ben and I found myself looking at the clock in disbelief when 45 minutes had whizzed by. It felt like we were just getting started.
Yes, every band has its own unique story on how they became a band but I'm sure none are nearly as unique as the tale behind the formulation of Bread of Stone. Join us for a fun conversation about music, going to elementary school without knowing the language, and why Ben returns to Indonesia on a regular basis. No matter where you stand with God - whether you believe, don't believe, or aren't sure what you believe - keep an open mind. I'll wager that by the time our conversation is over, you may find yourself in a new place. And that's a good thing.
